Trudner Horn nature park is the nature park in South Tyrol with the most biodiversity of flora and fauna. This is due to the location at 2,000 m altitude and the sub-Mediterranean climate in the region. In Trudner Horn nature park flourish over 60 types of orchids, wild flower meadows, open larch woods, wetlands and moors. Because of its biodiversity and special beauty Trudner Horn nature park was designated a “Natura 2000” region.

The nature park visitor center
The nature park house Trudner Horn is located in the centre of Truden in a historic elevator mill. The three storeys high mill was renovated and repaired in 2000, so that local farmers can once again grind their flour here. During the summer months (one time a week) bread is baked from freshly milled flour in the farmer’s oven, just like in the olden days.
In the nature park house the smaller attractions of the nature park can be admired. On display are thousands of times magnified microscopically tiny pollen and scorpions and lichen living in the park. Peat cutting and “Lergetbohren”, drilling the larches to collect the resin, are being demonstrated. Children get all excited about living anthills, the sounds of the various nocturnal birds of prey, the adventure workshop and the children’s afternoons.
