Trento, the capital of Trentino
Culture tips for Trento
About the same distance as Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, is Trento, the capital of Trentino. The town with its 120,000 inhabitants is situated at 194 m in the river valley of the Adige, surrounded by mountains. Trento has much to offer: Discover the city centre with its monuments steeped in history, castles and palaces, but also the atmosphere and the culture of the town.
Culture tips for Trento:
Castello del Buonconsiglio
From the 13th century to 1796 the Castello del Buonconsiglio was the residence of the Prince Bishops of Trento. Today the castle houses the state museum and documents the history of Trentino from the Napoleonic era to the First World War.
MART - Museum for modern and contemporary art
MART, the museum for modern and contemporary art has sites in Rovereto and Trento. The museum opens up new artistic horizons.
MUSE - Science Museum
MUSE, the Science Museum in Trento, offers a number of opportunities to discover the world and its secrets. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in science and nature and, through the image of the mountain, explore life on earth, the senses, the first inhabitants of the Alps, the history of the Dolomites and the nature of the Alps and the mountains themselves.
“Maxi Ooh” is a room for children (0-5 years) in which a multi-sensory environment for touching, smelling, looking and listening ensures fun.
Piazza Duomo
On Piazza Duomo you can visit several highlights: the Duomo San Vigilio, in which the Council of Trent (1545-1563) was held, the Palazzo Pretorio, the city tower Torre civica, and the Neptune fountain.
