Mushroom Picking in South Tyrol: Rules and Guidelines

Mushroom picking is a popular leisure activity in South Tyrol, but it is subject to clear regulations to protect nature and promote sustainable behavior. Here are the key points to keep in mind:

Permission and Times

In South Tyrol, you can only pick mushrooms on even-numbered days, between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
Check with the local municipality, as regulations may vary by area.

Quantity Limits
For non-residents of the municipality, mushroom picking is limited to 1 kilogram per person per day. This rule is intended to prevent overharvesting and protect the mushroom population.

Picking Fee
In many municipalities, a fee is required for mushroom picking. You can pay this fee at municipal offices. Keep the receipt as proof. In Südtirols Süden, the mushroom license can also be issued and paid for at the Aldein tourism office.

Rules of Conduct
1) Respect nature and avoid damaging the forest floor.
2) Use a knife to carefully harvest mushrooms instead of pulling them out.
3) Only pick mushrooms that you can confidently identify to avoid accidents with toxic species.
4) Mushrooms must be roughly cleaned at the collection site and transported in a solid, open, and well-ventilated container.
5) The use of rakes and hooks is prohibited.
6) Adhere to protected areas and do not enter private property without permission.
