In Val Sarentino traditions and customs are still widespread and part of everyday culture. Although close to the provincial capital Bolzano, the people in Sarentino speak their own unmistakable dialect. They proudly wear traditional dress and celebrate their fête and customs.

The Rohrerhaus is a 13th century farmhouse now used as a museum. The house excites with its smoke kitchen, bread oven, panelled parlours and original bedrooms including original furniture. Here you immerse yourself in the rural culture of days gone by.

In Val Sarentino traditional crafts are still very much at home and are still being practised today. Sarentino “Toppar” sloppers and “Janggar” cardigans, quill-embroidered Lederhosen belts and leather goods, turned wooden articles or “Reggelen” pipes are produced with passion.

Klöckeln is an ancient Advent custom that was once found throughout the Alpine region. In Val Sarentino Klöckeln stretches back to the 16th century. The three Klöckel nights are the Thursday evenings in Advent before the winter solstice.

The Sarentino fête (literally Church Day) takes place on the first weekend in September. The festival starts on the Saturday and ends on the Monday with the traditional “Sarnar Kirchte-Morkt” market. The fête is celebrated like a national holiday in the valley. It also marks the end of summer.
