Trudner Horn Nature Park
Between Forests, Meadows, and Panoramic Views: The Trudner Horn Nature Park
The Trudner Horn Nature Park is a true natural treasure, known for its extraordinary biodiversity. Covering an area of approximately 6,851 hectares, it spans the municipalities of Altrei, Truden, Neumarkt, Montan, and Salurn. Thanks to its unique location, the park offers a fascinating blend of sub-Mediterranean and alpine climates, creating a rich and diverse habitat for flora and fauna.
The landscape is shaped by gentle hills, dense forests, moorlands, and blooming meadows. Around 60 different orchid species thrive here, including rare specimens such as the lady’s slipper orchid and the fly orchid. Carnivorous plants like sundew and butterwort can also be found in the park’s high-altitude wetlands. The wildlife is equally diverse: from the majestic capercaillie and the colorful hoopoe to the rare fire salamander, many endangered species find a protected home in this pristine environment.
A special highlight is the Visitor Center in Truden, housed in a carefully restored old mill. Here, visitors can learn more about the park’s geology, flora, and fauna through interactive exhibits, a herb garden, and an amphibian pond, making it an engaging experience for the whole family.
