Laives, the apple town
Laives grows 32,500 tonnes of apples every year.
In the apple town Laives everything revolves around these crunchy South Tyrolean apples. Over 220 Laives families are apple growers. On 500 hectare (=5 km²) of apple meadows, approx. a fifth of the total area of the municipality, they grow 13 different varieties of apples and a total of 32,500 tonnes a year. The fifth most important varieties grown in Laives are Royal Gala, Pink Lady, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious and Fuji.
