Holiday villages

Kurtatschon the South Tyrolean wine route and its hamlets Entiklar, Penon, Graun and Oberfennberg are home to 2,200 people. The name derives from curtis or corte meaning ‘a collection of high farms’. Kurtatsch is framed by a circle of wineries. Kurtatsch was an early settlement. Archaeological finds point to the Mesolithic and the Bronze Age. The Romans also left their mark.

Margreid has a historic village centre and many aristocratic houses with stone framed portals, loggias, coupled arch windows, external stairs, skilfully crafted window grilles. Styles are a mixture of German Gothic, Mediterranean Renaissance and cheerful Baroque. It was first recorded in 1182 but finds point an earlier settlement. Margreid includes the hamlet Unterfennberg with its swimming lake.

Kurtinig on the South Tyrolean wine route is the second smallest municipality in South Tyrol (2 km²) and the lowest elevation (209-214 m). Kurtinig is situated in the Etsch valley, without any dwellings in the hills. Typical are the vines on the façades of many buildings. Vines were traditionally planted by the side of a house when the first child was born, the farm handed over or when it was rebuilt.
